1 What is it?

A visual representation of Cosnics’s structure:

1.1 Repository

Every user has an archive where Content Objects (documents, pictures, video, assessments, assignments, …)   are stored: the Repository

This is a virtual library of all objects the user has made or uploaded into the learning management system.

1.2 Content object

Every item (file, page, picture, video, forum…)  in the Repository is considered to be a Content Object.

A content object can be simple or a combination of other content objects. These are called complex objects. A test is a clear example of this. Its title and description are linked to a series of questions, that in turn are separate content objects..

Store once, use many

When a Content Object is edited, the changes are immediately visible in all the publications of that same Content Object.

1.3 Applications

Content objects can be published to several locations: we call these applications: courses, portfolio, forum, wiki, …
Content object that are published to applications are visible in these applications but are still located inside the Repository.

1.4 Publications

A publication is a relation between a Content Object in the Repository, a location in an Application and one or more Users or Groups.

e.g.: a PDF-document in your Repository is published to course XYZ for Group W and the users A and B.

Read the manual on ‘Publishing’ to learn more about this.

1.5 Sharing

You can share Content Objects directly from your Repository with other users on the platform. In this way you can work together on a specific page, wiki or assessment. You can share objects via Workspaces

1.6 Workspaces

You can publish Content Objects in a Workspace, directly from your Repository. A Workspace can be shared with other users.  The following rights can be set:

2 Summary

A Content Object (e.g. a file) is stored in your personal library, the Repository, and can be shared with other users directly or by means of an application (e.g. Courses).
